Claire Alta Elliott

In my painting, I study of the effects of mood and memory on the perception of color, light and space. My work explores memory: how it functions, shifts and blends. I work in slow layers, editing, blurring and inventing my record of the past. Each time we access a memory it is recreated in order to be available in the future; my process is a meditation on that principle. My probing of personal experience combines with my technique and process. Layering colors, building drips and defining lines are my physical means of analyzing memory through repetition. The places and events I depict are suspended in the fantasy of my own memory- separated by time, space and perception from reality.
